Our Goal

UConn 4-H is shaping the future workforce of Connecticut by providing youth with hands-on learning experiences that build essential career skills. Today’s job market demands more than just technical knowledge—young people need strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.  

Why Support Now

  • 84% of 4-H alums surveyed reported being satisfied with their lives, compared to only 70% of non-alums. (National 4-H Alumni Survey 2024).  
  • 66% of participants credited 4-H with helping them be ready for work and careers. (National 4-H Index Survey 2024). 
  • 22,825 youth with served in UConn 4-H in 2023-2024, equipping them with skills for the future.  

      Funding Priorities

      1. Teen College & Career Prep
      • Expand career workshops and workforce training through the Teen Connection program engaging youth in career exploration.  
      • Focus areas: veterinary science, engineering, food science, and more.  
        2. Workforce Certifications
          • Provide industry-recognized certifications: ServSafe, OSHA, First Aid & CPR, Safe Tractor Operation, Boating License, Judging Certifications and Animal Quality Assurance building career skills for youth.  
          3. Expanded Career Programs to Broader Audiences
            • Increase trained facilitators to reach more youth. 
            • Broaden hands-on education in leadership, financial literacy, public speaking, communication, and team management.
