Explore UConn Program

Explore UConn is a one-day program on October 9th, aimed at junior and senior high school youth this 4-H program allows members to visit various College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources (CAHNR) departments, enjoy a provided lunch in a campus dining unit, and interact with current UConn students, faculty and staff. Registration is now OPEN.
Register early as sessions fill quickly. There is no guarantee on session assignment. Schedule subject to change. All participants must pay a non-refundable $25.00 each. If you are a fully enrolled 4-H member or coming with a school group you can email 4-H@uconn.edu for a discounted registration.

Option 1: Register and pay via credit card using the link in the button above. Scroll down to the 4-H Explore UConn Store to complete registration. You can register multiple people and pre-order lunch. No forms need to be mailed in.

Option 2: Print registration and mail check payable to UConn. Please note 4-H Volunteer Conference in the memo line.

Animal Science (ANSC)  

Join the UConn Animal Science department through guided tours of horse and livestock barns, engaging workshops on animal nutrition, reproduction and related topics while also meeting current professors, students and department representatives to learn more about the program!

Pathobiology

Step into the exciting world of Pathobiology!

Enjoy a presentation on exciting careers in science, medicine, veterinary health, and public health. Discover how microbes affect our daily lives and how scientists investigate the causes of disease. Through hands-on activities, you will practice pipetting, use a microscope to examine specimens, and culture microbes collected from everyday surfaces.

Join us and explore the One Health connection between human, animal, and environmental health.

UConn Moove Lab (KINS)   

Exercise is medicine! Join the UConn Moove Lab to discover how kinesiology professionals use exercise to improve health and performance. Students will participate in hands-on fitness and movement assessments, learn how exercise intensity is measured, and work in teams to develop a mock exercise prescription. Learn about career pathways in kinesiology, exercise prescription, and health sciences while experiencing exercise science in action.

Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) & Dietetics Program

The DGS and Dietetics programs will each lead a workshop during the allotted session. The DGS workshop, "DNA Detectives: The Doodle Dog Dad Mystery," introduces participants to the fundamentals of genetics, inheritance, and DNA analysis through a canine genetics case study. Participants will learn how DNA testing can be used to investigate biological relationships and support applications in animal breeding, ancestry testing, and forensic science. The Dietetics workshop, "Sugar Detectives," introduces participants to the role of nutrition in health and wellness. Participants will learn how to identify added sugars in foods and beverages and gain a better understanding of how nutrition information can support informed food choices. Together, these workshops expose participants to two health science disciplines while demonstrating how science is applied to real-world questions and decisions.

Wonders of Plants (PLSA)  

The Wonder of Plants Workshop will include a brief presentation about our department’s programs, a tour of the floriculture greenhouses where students will explore and learn about many unique plants, and a hands-on planting activity.

Agriculture & Resource Economics (ENRE & ESDM)

Think you have what it takes to make a winning business decision? In this interactive workshop, students will compete to tackle a fun business and economics challenge. You might develop the next big idea, create a marketing strategy, or outsmart the competition in a simulated marketplace. No prior business or economics experience is necessary—just bring your creativity, curiosity, and competitive spirit. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team!
